The drama's premium soundtrack Yi San OST enhances the mood of the turbulent era with much force. The musical whiz behind the soundtracks for popular period dramas like Dae Jang Geum, Hur Jun, Seo Dong Yo, and Sangdo, Lim Sae Hyun takes full control as the album's musical director, mixing in the grandiose sounds of Korean traditional music with classical music. Joining the bandwagon of top talents are whistle artist Songsolnamoo, guitarist Ham Choon Ho, violinist Sim Sang Won, and pianist Choi Tae Wan. The theme song for Song Yeon (Han Ji Min's character), Yak Sok ("A Promise" - Track 3), gained media attention with trot darling Jang Yoon Jung offering her dazzling vocals that beautifully convey Song Yeon's love for King Jeong Jo.
